From Tip #25, I began discussing the concept of community. As we delved deeper in Tip #26 and Tip #27, I showcased various facets and strategies related to community engagement. Now, in this piece, I’d like to take a leap forward. Believe it or not, everyone has the potential to be a leader within their community. Here’s why and how.

Leadership ≠ Management 🎓

In Tip #19, I emphasized that being a leader isn’t synonymous with being a manager. This is a point worth reiterating. Every single one of you can take the reins of leadership. Passion and expertise can be your guiding stars. Don’t wait for a managerial title. If you lead, you are already a leader.

Take Stacy’s journey as a prime example. While she wasn’t part of the core leadership team, her desire to see more dbt resources in Traditional Chinese drove her to propose the ironman writing initiative. With her guidance, seven individuals wrote consistently for 30 days. Stacy, with her actions, showcased leadership. 🌟

Small Acts, Big Impact 🌱

I’ve witnessed numerous instances where seemingly small gestures made a huge difference. Let’s talk about Alex, whom we met during meetup #9 in March 2023. His zeal for DuckDB was contagious, prompting Allen and me to invite him to present at our 11th meetup in May 2023. His passion led him to other platforms as well, like COSCUP. Inspired by Alex’s enthusiasm, both Allen and CL started experimenting with duckdb. Check out CL’s side project that combines dbt & duckdb to model campaign finance here.

Then, there’s the tale of Building MDS Fest in 47 days. This endeavor was nothing short of a marvel. Many who didn’t get slots at Coalesce 2023 decided to host their own conference. While I missed out on participating in the organization 😔, I was there to witness its grandeur.

Yes, it’s Challenging but with Great Rewards 🏆

Initiating something new is always daunting. When the #local-taipei community was created, we were brimming with ideas but unsure about their execution. Where to start? Who would present? Who would attend? Fortunately, our fledgling community rapidly grew, organically giving birth to more meetups and garnering greater participation. The tale of how dbt #local-taipei started is truly heartwarming 💓. The milestones achieved were memorable, but the shared journey, even more so. Those moments power me through challenges even today 🚀.
