Celebrating 3 Years of Taipei dbt Meetup! 2024 review
We were invited to a data Podcast in Taiwan, 鬼鴞說資料, to talk about the Taipei dbt Meetup. It’s a great opportunity to reflect on the achievements and surprises of our journey, especially as this marks the third year of our #local-taipei channel in the dbt Slack community.
Since we’re a data community, let’s take a look at some numbers. Here’s a quick snapshot of what we’ve accomplished up to 2024/12/12:
- With 1,147 members, we’re the 4th largest group among 65 dbt Community Meetups worldwide.
- We, #local-taipei, now have 294 members in the dbt Slack community.
- We’ve co-hosted meetups with GDG Taipei, Singapore dbt Meetup, Airflow Taiwan, and Data Scientist Meetup. Next year, we’ll collaborate with DevOps Taiwan.
- Our YT channel features 32 recordings of sharing, with 5.2K views.
- Since the 1st meetup on 2022/2/19, we have held 31 events + 3 lunch and dinner gatherings.
- 50% of our speakers were the first-timers discovered during mingo.
- Our Medium publication has 20 articles (including this one!), contributed by 7 authors.
- 13 community members participated iThome 30-day technical writing competition, producing over 360+ Chinese articles about data. In 2023, 6 out of 7 participants completed, and 1 won the 2nd place in the Data & AI category. In 2024, all 6 participants completed the challenge.
- 4 members co-authored the first dbt & Analytics Engineering book in Traditional Chinese.
We never planned for what the Taipei dbt Meetup would become — it grew organically. As Laurence said, “We must have done something right to get here.” Looking back, we see that a key piece of this journey was believing in helping ourselves naturally leads to helping others. In this way, we keep our passion to organize the community and spread love💜 to other members. This philosophy, “Serve ourselves. Resolve our problems”, has been the heart of what we do.
“Your experience matters.” When people share their experiences, we always encourage them to share here. It doesn’t matter whether the experience is success or failure. The first-hand and fresh experiences are often more vivid and relatable than retrospectives from industry veterans. Next year, we’re adding lightning talks! Whether it’s 5 minutes or 10 minutes, you’re welcome to share your learnings.

剛被邀請去鬼鴞說資料介紹 Taipei dbt Meetup，才發現今年已經成立第三年了。正好可以回頭看一下過去的成就跟驚喜。
既然是資料社群，就先來看點數字。以下是截至 2024/12/12 的紀錄：
- 在 Meetup 上有 1,147 成員，目前是全球 dbt 社群第四大。
- 在 dbt Slack community 內則有 294 人加入 #local-taipei。
- 從 2022/2/19 的第一場 Meetup 開始，已經舉辦過 31 場 Meetup + 3 次聚餐。
- 曾經與 GDG Taipei, Singapore dbt Meetup, Airflow Taiwan, and Data Scientist Meetup 一起舉辦 Meeetup。明年會跟 DevOps Taiwan 合作。
- 我們的 YT 頻道 上傳 32 個 Meetup 影片，共有 5, 200 次觀看。
- 共有 13 位成員參加兩屆 iThome 鐵人賽。去年 7 人參加，6 人完賽，有 1 人拿下 Data & AI 組優選。今年 6 人全員完賽。
- 4 位成員共同撰寫第一本繁體中文 dbt & Analytics Engineering 實戰手冊
沒有一件是事先規劃好的，Taipei dbt Meetup 是透過大家的努力自然成長。就像 Laurence 說的，可能我們哪裡做對了才有現在的樣子。分析過去，覺得是因為我們一直相信，如果能保持熱情，解決自己的問題就能幫助到其他人。四位主辦者，以及推動其他活動的朋友們，都是為了完成自己想達到的事情或解決自己的問題，因此才有熱情 (推坑 😆) 影響其他人。因此我們的核心宗旨一直都是「服務自己，解決自己的問題」。
「你的經驗很重要。」這是另外一個想強調的，當我們在交流時聽到別人的分享，總是會鼓勵他來 Taipei dbt Meetup 分享。不管你的經歷或做法是成功或失敗，重點是你做過了，你知道什麼可以、什麼不可以，經常那個「不可以、行不通」更重要。或者你覺得「那沒什麼吧~~」其實其他人不見得知道或者有人正在同樣的狀況內，還沒找到解法。比起大老們話當年，這種第一手熱騰騰的經驗更棒！從明年開始，我們會增加閃電講，希望能降低準備分享的門檻，鼓勵更多人願意跟其他人分享自己的經驗。
也非常感謝所有參加過 Taipei dbt Meetup 的朋友們，以及所有來分享的講者。希望這個交流能夠持續，讓我們一起保持好奇跟動力，繼續探索資料的世界。🙌
